. . . . . . unfortunate happenstance!



. . . . . . . and I need to get moving!

OK. I know what I'm facing so now I can work on relieving the shoulder pain!
I have rotator cuff syndrome requiring a course of physiotherapy prior to 
any invasive treatment. . . . . . .which hopefully will not be needed if I do as
I'm told.
I've returned to a practice (my third time over several years) where
I can continue PT with 'magical' Brian who got me through other painful
 incidents. I felt lucky finding almost all the staff at this business still working
 there, from the smiling receptionists to the qualified professional
 physiotherapists and massage specialists. Today's visit - yes they fit me in
immediately - was almost like going home with hugs and "welcome backs."

No raking leaves, vacuuming, lifting anything heavy, reaching, 
pushing, pulling etc. Lots of exercises, ice packs and pain pills, sigh.
Can I be wearing out? 

Christmas decorating may have to be kept to a minimum this year!

  1. I had a frozen shoulder years ago and at one point wore a sling on that arm to remind me not to use it and people at work realized I was injured when they saw the sling. Resting it and the passage of time healed it, plus I had one cortisone shot which helped a lot by relieving the cycle of inflammation. I did PT exercises too, like you are doing. Keep on healing.

  2. Better to take care of the shoulder than cause worse damage. I had unexplained shoulder pain awhile back. Couldn't even put my arm behind my back to scratch like I could with my other arm. Sometimes the pain would just sit with me all day long and really ache. Lasted for quite awhile and now things are back to normal. We are active and sometimes do things that we don't even know are causing inflammation or joint damage. Hope you get relief and heal quickly.

  3. I'm glad you're getting good treatment. Now it's just falling in line with the recommendations; a hard thing for a busy person to do, especially at this time of year.

  4. Poor you Mary - hope that you soon feel some improvement and also get some relief. Yes, keep Christmas decorations to a minimum then you will enjoy yourself so much more. I am doing the same simply because I feel that I have done it all for so many years, and we shall be at my younger sons house for the festivities anyway. Take care dear Mary.

  6. Oh dear, that sounds painful and unpleasant, not to mention inconvenient! What caused it, do you know? Anyway, I'm glad you have already started PT!

  9. I can relate to your pain! A few years ago, I had a partial tear in my left rotator cuff. I was able to avoid surgery and go through a lot of physical therapy. It took about 9 months of doing so, but I hung in there. Anything to avoid surgery! And now I have 99.9% range of motion back and no pain at all. And then about 1-1/2 years ago, my right shoulder started hurting and I was diagnosed with rotator cuff impingement, which I believe is the same as rotator cuff syndrome, just a different name. Again, some physical therapy and I'm all good. However, they've warned me to be very careful with this right shoulder though, because once you have impingement, it can easily lead to a tear. It's always something, isn't it! I hope you will do well with the PT and will be able to avoid surgery.

  10. Oh no!!! I tore my rotator cuff in 2004...took me TOO LONG to recover because at that time I refused surgery and couldn't afford therapy. I still have flair ups but I somehow manage the pain. I hope you heal quickly Mary, I remember that pain!!! xxx

  12. Reading through your posts (in reverse) I see just how long you've contended with the shoulder injury and pain. you poor thing, Mary. So sorry.

    That bird has to be one of the prettiest around! Lovely shots too.
