For the weekend -

Yesterday I left the house with caution, as is the norm these days.
Masked, I went in search of food, plus some needed cleaning supplies and
a few odds and ends.
Most things were available without much trouble, and I found others not on my list. . . . .
. . . . . these gorgeous perfumed peonies! Two bunches from LIDL - and added the unusual large curved antirrhinums (snapdragons) and gypsophila from another grocery store.

Antirrhinum is a genus of plants commonly known as dragon flowers or snapdragons because of the flowers' fancied resemblance to the face of a dragon that opens and closes its mouth when laterally squeezed. They are native to rocky areas of Europe, the United States, and North Africa.

I recall naming these 'bunny rabbit' flowers as a child in England - my mother grew them annually and
they were always one of my favorites.
I'm writing this post in New Blogger this morning but having several problems. One huge one seems to be my entire blog layout (side bar etc.) keeps disappearing!  Anyone else having that problem today? I think Blogger must be working on their new system . . . . or fooling with us!  It's really tiresome and I'm signing off for now in hope things will work better later today, or tomorrow, or one of these crazy days!!!!
BTW, regarding the masks, here in our county of North Carolina, mandatory wearing of such 24/7 when in public goes into effect today!  Apparently you won't be arrested without one, just stopped and warned by Police. Let's see how that works out.
Have a great weekend . . . . . . and Happy Father's Day on Sunday to all the really dear and special dads hiding behind their masks out there!

  1. Interestingly, your sidebar is "coming and going." When I first arrived, it was gone, then showed up. When the page refreshed to open the comment section, it was gone, but is back all on its own. Very mysterious. 😁

I love peonies and yours are glorious. Mine have paled out to white this year...will have to check why.

Trying to screw up my courage to go out for needed things, but I have waited so late in the day that I know there'll be lines.

    A happy weekend to you...

    1. Vee it's all back but I had to delete LinkWithin to rectify the problem! Now I'm waiting to see if this will cause other problems.
I hope you managed to get out - today we needed things from Costco and I let Bob go alone - I will not go to those big/busy stores on a Sat. afternoon!
Hmm, I wonder why your peonies are now white - perhaps something in the soil or they need fertilizer? Just looked it up - apparently if they have seeded from the original plants they could be lighter or even white.

  2. The flower arrangement is beautiful Mary. We haven't had the mandatory mask wearing here in our county. I still wear mine in public though. Looking forward to the day we don't have to. Have a great weekend!

    1. My cloth mask, made by a friend, has beautiful printed elephants parading across it - I love it but in the grocery store (the only store visit) I get very uncomfortable and overly warm, plus my throat hurts. I honestly don't want to go out much at all feeling like that!

    1. . . . . . but I'm just glad you stop by and leave a comment, don't expect you to work here, haha! Things are picking up though and after a lengthy, lovely phone chat with Gina in Utah this morning, where she helped me with new Blogger by walking me through the new process. I really am blessed to have such wonderful friends.

  4. Mary, I'm in love with your photos and those gorgeous flowers. Oh my! I love peonies and Sarah Bernhardt is one of my favourites so far. My mom always had snapdragons in her garden.

I an working in new Blogger and I seem to be adapting okay. I've had no issues with the sidebar coming and go on my blog (fingers crossed), and while I'm here with you, yours is sitting steady. Hopefully these things will iron out.

    Wishing you a beautiful weekend.

    1. Glad you are getting along with new Blogger Brenda. It's going better for me now though I still think the changes are far from being improvements!
      Have a lovely weekend.

  5. Beautiful flowers. I've looked at the new blogger, I guess we will just have to get used to it. Occasionally my sidebar moves to the bottom of my blog page but that happened before the new blogger started, and it usually rights itself. Have a good weekend.

    1. We are certainly being tested. . . . . as if we need more upset in life right now!
Hope your weekend is going well.

  6. Beautiful flowers!

Masks have been mandatory here for a couple of months now, I believe it's been. You have to wear them in stores and anywhere in public where social distancing isn't possible. Living away from the city (Chicago) and being in a small town, the social distancing isn't a problem for us. But the thing that gets me is that every time I'm in a grocery store, I still see some people without masks. And management obviously doesn't do a darn thing about it. Makes me so mad because I'm wearing a mask to protect their sorry butts! Guess they only care about themselves.

On a cheerier note, I hope you have a good weekend!

  7. Hi Mary - good to see you're keeping well. I have no idea where 'antirrhinum' came from; they'll always be bunny rabbits' to me. But I have no idea why :-)

  8. Gorgeous flowers! It is always an adventure now to leave the house. Humm? Do I have my mask? check And if I am walking, do I have my sun hat? check Do I have comfortable shoes for the adventure I am about to take? check! Sometimes I just want to stay home. Ha! Masks are mandatory her also.

    Take care, dear friend!

  9. The peonies and snapdragons are absolutely gorgeous! In German, snapdragons are called Löwenmäulchen, literally meaning "tiny lions' mouths". I have always loved them, like you, even as a little girl.
Mandatory mask wearing when on public transport and in shops has been mandatory here since the end of April. We have sort of gotten used to it, although nobody likes it, of course, and you still see plenty of folks about not wearing them. When a train attendant or a shop clerk approaches someone without a mask and politely asks them to wear one, there are sometimes discussions... so unnecessary, just get on with it, put that thing over your mouth AND nose, and stop making a fuss!

    1. Yes, you are so right Meike. . . .no fussing just do what is right for everyone's safety and chance to remain virus free. We have enough upset in the world and far too many people not doing the right thing to make life better again.
      You stay strong. . . .O.K. too.

  10. Your peonies are gorgeous Mary - I do wish we had them here! We do have snapdragons though, and my mother used to grow them. We loved to play with their little faces. I just wrote a first post on new blogger - let's hope it works for me. Thank you for the alerts, and I copied some of the hints from your previous posts which made it easier to navigate. I think masks are a great idea and cannot understand why our government does not encourage the wearing of them. We were all very worried about recent street gatherings of thousands of people and worry about a second flare up of the virus. Be safe xxx

    1. We all seem to love peonies....and snapdragons. Childhood memories so often involve growing flowers don't they!
Things are definitely not improving around here regarding new cases and deaths - numbers went higher this past week - hopefully mandatory masks will help.
New Blogger is OK but it will be a while before I can say it's much of an improvement!
      Stay well - Mary

    1. Enjoyed our phone time yesterday Gina, thanks again for all the help with Blogger. The peonies still smell so wonderful - off now to change the water and then they'll last perhaps through the coming week.
