Suzanna's Antiques for the New Year.......................

Yesterday evening we picked Jasmin up from work at SuzAnna's Antiques. Of course I had my camera and had to look around for some pretties to share with you. The gals had been busy taking down Christmas, moving large pieces of furniture, designing new display areas, arranging, rearranging, and generally working non-stop. Bringing together the first of another new year full of antique and vintage loveliness to entice us to buy and bring home is definitely hard work!

Don't you just love this wreath made of pages from vintage books and sheet music? I'm sure that's not easy to craft but the work pays off as the finished item is something quite charming and could be used year round.

Spying some vintage evening dresses made me think of
New Year's Eve which is coming up fast.
I think this black dress is lovely - looks comfortable,
and has just enough sparkle to make it festive rather
than dull and a bit dowdy as with some black lace.

Are you planning something festive for New Year's Eve?
We have purchased our buttons to attend the downtown 2014 First Night celebration......a day full of costumed processions, art, music, activities, and topped off with the Raleigh acorn (our city's symbol) being dropped at midnight, followed by fireworks of course.

Remember I mentioned we will be 'going away' for New Year.
We won't go far though - we're checking into a nice hotel, right in the center of all the downtown activities, so we can enjoy everything, including a special bottle of bubbly, and not have to drive home after midnight!

  1. I love the creative way others repurpose old things. Antique store shopping is one of my favorite past times and I just wish I had more time to do it. You spotted some cool stuff. Please come and visit me on my blog "Notably Wonderful" as well .

    Greetings ~ Enzie

  3. Hello Mary, I have been away from home for the holidays and enjoying a bit of a blog break. Away... meaning mostly in Florida with two of our daughters and their families for Christmas and a wedding on the West coast of Florida yesterday. My great niece was married in a sea of colors of a peacock feather. Gorgeous and a lovely family gathering at the local yacht club. Tomorrow we head home to NC and will have a welcome quiet New Years.

Your comment was a welcome sight as it has been a while since we have visited. I have slowed down considerably with blogging but I am still hanging in there. It is a journal sort of...that I do enjoy very much.

Today your post about SuzAnna's Antiques was fun to see. Imagine Jasmin working there. I too loved the handmade rolled music sheets made into a wreath. It would be fabulous to visit her shop again. It would be lovely to visit you the next time I am in the area as well. It is hard to keep up with you with your travels. I envy your great opportunity to travel so much and if it were me I would go every chance I could. Smile!

Your New Years plans sound like a fun time. Wishing you and yours a happy and healthy New Year in 2014.
    Blessings to you both,
    Jeanne

  6. That sounds like the perfect way to celebrate. Enjoy!
Oh how I would love to see the fireworks and dance in
the street. We tend to be party poopers on NY Eve.
Love the paper wreath, but my favorite is in the collage
the top middle picture, oh how I would love that stoneware
white pitcher. It is so pretty. I know I will find one here
eventually, so I enjoy the search and like you just enjoy
    the viewing and picture taking.

  7. That wreath is really cool looking, and I have seen them before although I don't know when I will have time to make one. Looks like that dresser was done with the chalk paint which is what I have been wanting to try. Glad you had a good new years!
