June arrives with beauty. . . . . . . and fear!

I believe we in the northern hemisphere always look forward to the month of June.
June is special for gardeners and outdoor lovers. Our flowers look perfect before
the real heat of summertime beats down on our sunburned necks.
Here in the hot and humid southeast, keeping up the garden becomes somewhat
of a tiresome chore once June is gone!  Right now the trees are awesome with
fresh foliage in every shade of green, and in their branches a new generation
 of sweet singing birds.

Tonight, and it's definitely not too soon, more like far too late, our city will be
under curfew from 8 PM until 5 AM each day until further notice. We will not
be permitted to be away from home and on the streets within the city limits,
except for a medical emergency.

Last night sleep was rough with circling helicopters, and the presence of police
in riot gear at the large retail center just 2 minutes from our home.
Even with those brave people at the ready, groups of domestic terrorists were
able to move from wreaking havoc on downtown businesses, public buildings,
and the State Capitol grounds, for the second night in a row, and then
be transported almost to our doorstep!  Shops, restaurants and businesses,
major hotels, our grocery and more, were targeted, damaged and looted.
 It was unbelievable and heartbreaking.
In truth, I am fearful, perhaps more than I have ever been.

  1. This is really scary - far more than anything corona-related could be. And it does not help the original cause one bit, quite the contrary.

  2. Our thoughts are with you both - "remember you are braver than you believe, and stronger than you think" - quote Rumi.

  3. What a worry for you Mary. All you can do is stay safely at home, and enjoy the peace of your lovely garden.

  4. Mary, I am horrified to read that this has come so close, too close, to you. Praying for you and your community and praying that these disturbances will be quelled. Trusting God and that is all.

  5. Oh Mary, this is terrible. I have been away from the news for a week and am horrified by what is happening. Stay safe. Stay strong.
    Hugs,

  6. We live in a small town, so the rioting and looting are not close to us, but it's going on in surrounding towns and counties. Don't even talk to me about Chicago (we're in the far northwest suburbs)...it looks like a war zone. I never watch the news on TV anyway and I sure don't plan to anytime soon! I only see news stories come through my Facebook feed, so then I can choose what to read and what to ignore. My head and heart can only take so much to where my anxiety kicks into high gear.

Praying for the peace of our country and world.

  7. Dear Mary,
I am so sorry that you are going through such dangerous days and nights. Please know that you have a quiet place right here, waiting for you whenever you wish.

  8. Yes, we are blessed with peaceful homes and gardens. Oh my! Helicopters flying over would be disconcerting. Portland is having nightly curfews too, but the people are out there anyway. We can only pray that there be peace in our future.

  9. Mary, I had no idea that you were so close to the looting and rioting. I cannot imagine the fear you experienced. Stay inside and stay away from these places, hopefully the police will get things under control asap. You are in my prayers my friend, as is the rest of the country.
